The Times' Lose 19 in '19 weight-loss contest has begun. Speaking about the relations with South Ossetia, the premier made it clear that the people of the former Georgian republic will decide whether they will join Russia one day. Russia supported South Ossetia when the Georgian leadership launched their military operation, Putin said, referring to the August 2008 war in which Georgia initiated a military offensive against the small republic.

Overweight and obesity in the United States among adults and children has increased significantly over the last two decades. Those following typical American eating and activity patterns are likely to be consuming diets in excess of their energy requirements. However, caloric intake is only one side of the energy balance equation. Caloric expenditure needs to be in balance with caloric intake to maintain body weight and must exceed caloric intake to achieve weight loss (see tables 3 and 4 ). To reverse the trend toward obesity, most Americans need to eat fewer calories, be more active, and make wiser food choices.
Do not fall for fad diets: Many diets promise to help you lose a lot of weight in a short period of time. As tempting as they sound, do not follow these diets as they are unsafe. Even though you will lose weight easily, you will also ruin your health as these diets require one to eat very restricted food items and do not fulfil the body's nutritional requirement. Losing more than four to five kilos per month is also not considered healthy and some of these diets promise to help you lose that much weight in a week's time.
Do not begin a weight loss or exercise routine without first consulting a health care professional for advice. There are many health conditions that may contraindicate rapid weight loss programs or some of the other effective short-term weight loss strategies.
