#links# The Javelinas won the team title, amassing 65 points, 14 ahead of Ashland, a surprise (to us) second place finisher. It was observed that at one point only one pool was functional. This pool mined many blocks in a row with no transactions. We have identified this pool and have been in contact with the operator. They modified their software some time ago to ignore all transactions to address some performance issues. We do not believe there was any malicious intent on their part, and they have committed to working with us to get to a point where they can include transactions in their blocks.

Throws: The Cardinal throwers recorded some really impressive marks at the Invitational, especially on the women's side. Highly-touted freshman Lena Geiger continued her strong start to her collegiate career by winning the shot put on Friday while also finishing sixth in the hammer throw. Lena's mark in the shot put was a personal best, and it came against strong (and older) competition — a mix of both pros and collegians. Lena seems to always have a great, positive attitude whenever she's training or competing, which, as most track and field athletes can attest, is not an easy quality to embody.

Outside the sporting domain John has consulted for both the police and the military and has performance managed the science and conditioning support for elite polar expeditions. From 2005 to 2009 John was the Head of Strength and Conditioning for UK Athletics, and retains a brief with that organization to provide direct service to current world champion and Beijing silver medalist, triple-jumper Philips Idowu and coach Aston Moore.

My next target is to try and achieve that time during the summer season. I always feel nervous on the cusp of a new season and it always takes a race or two to settle down. I plan to start my season in Hobart on January 25 before moving on to Newcastle (Jan 31) and then on to Canberra (Feb 7) - where I hope to base myself for the first leg of my Australian-based competitive programme.
