We don't have cable either, even though I work in the television industry. When I was growing up my parents restricted us to one hour of television a day. We got to pick what we watched, but once you'd watched your hour you were done. As a result, I don't just turn on my television and look for something to watch, or leave it on in the background for noise. I pick my shows and watch those. So cable seems an unnecessary expense. I haven't had it in seven years, and before that I only had it because my roommate at the time wanted it and was willing to pay for it. If they ever offer a la carte pricing for cable channels, I might consider it then, but now I'd be paying too much money for just the few channels (Syfy, BBCAmerica, FX, AMC) that I'd actually watch.
