Losing weight is hard. The NHS recommends that most people trying to lose a lot of weight should cut down their daily intake by 600 calories - this number depends largely on how heavy you are to begin with and how many calories you are already consuming in a day. In general, you should aim to reduce your calorie intake and exercise more in moderation, particularly when you have just begun a weight plan. As you become fitter and healthier you can adjust your diet and exercise plans accordingly.
We've all heard the rumors about French women: They don't get fat, and they teach their children to eat a variety of foods from a young age. When I first stepped into the country of croissants, steak tartare, and delicious wine, I was desperate for some lessons around food. I was a lot like many of us—thinking that if I stayed away from certain "bad" foods, I would lose weight or that if I exercised relentlessly, I would create a fit body and look amazing. I was at a place where I didn't understand my body, my enjoyment of food, or balance. If I prescribed to all-or-nothing mentalities, I would somehow find happiness.

Jan. 5, 2004 - Whether your weight -loss strategy espouses carbs with no fat or protein with few carbs, there is one thing your plan most certainly recommends - water. From the veggie-based Ornish diet to steak-loving Atkins (and virtually all diets in between) "drink lots of water" is part of the mantra.
