Many women find themselves gaining weight during the menopause even if they're eating no more calories than previously. There are many methods of cooking like boiling, steaming, pressure cooking, frying, roasting and baking. Boiling is the most common method of cooking, but because of this process some heat-labile and water-soluble vitamins like vitamin B-complex and C is lost. Cooking rice with excess of water may lead to the loss of nutrient value so just use sufficient water to be fully absorbed. To avoid loss of vitamins, use of baking soda for hastening cooking of pulses should not be practiced. Repeated heating of oils particularly Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid (PUFA)-rich oils results in formation of peroxides and free radicals hence, should be avoided by using just enough oil. Similarly, oils which have been repeatedly heated should not be mixed with fresh oil but should be used for process such as seasoning.
Low-carb diets are having a serious moment, but for Emma P., of Austin, Texas, they didn't go quite far enough. In November of this year she decided to go "full keto" (meaning ketogenic , the process by which the body uses stored fat for energy instead of glycogen). "My diet consists mostly of fat, with some protein, and I aim to eat close to zero carbs per day," she says. "I really don't exercise, and its typical for keto people to not need to exercise for weight control. I try to stay active, but I don't go out of my way to work out." While it may sound extreme to some, she's seen amazing results, losing 40 pounds in a year, and 10 pounds the first month.
Sometimes we eat because we're hungry. And sometimes we eat because we're bored, procrastinating, tired, sad, stressed, or thirsty. Knowing the difference between real hunger and, well, everything else, is a major key to losing weight. Fortunately there's a simple tool to help you hear what your body's really telling you. Meditation can teach you to tune in to your body's subtle signals, including hunger cues, according to a study done by Cornell University. So the next time you're tempted to down a glazed doughnut or a giant Coke, try doing a minute or two of meditation and you may just realize you're actually dehydrated and go for a water instead. A separate study done by Vanderbilt University School of Medicine found that meditation helped people lose weight, specifically by reducing activity in the part of the brain linked to impulsiveness.
We all know fiber helps keep us 'œregular', but it does more than that! It helps to eliminate toxins, and it feeds our gut bacteria. Fiber can only be found in plant foods, so if you needed another reason to eat more vegetables, here it is! We need 20-45 grams of fiber each day, unfortunately, many of us only get about half that. Increase your fiber and your water intake simultaneously to slim down and reduce inflammation.
